move! new years resolution #1

for new years this year I wanted to take a different approach to my resolutions. rather than try to do specific things consistently (you can use many, many words to describe me, consistent is NOT one of them lol), I decided to go with more broad/vague goals to achieve on a daily basis. after a lot of pondering, reflection, and consideration I narrowed it down to 10 (achievable!) daily goals.

and of course, me being me, each one needed a corresponding collage. I’ve only been working on these since like September… but my plan is to have all of these professionally printed out and then framed and displayed somewhere in my bedroom so I quite literally can’t not see them on a daily basis. no excuses 🙂

first up… MOVE! this is my worst anti-habit, I am very good at doing the opposite of moving. as a kid, puberty skyrocketed me into obesity and I had to have (most of) my stomach medically removed to remotely correct that issue. but that is all behind me now, I am in much better shape and health – but I still still around waaay too much. and working from home full-time has NOT been helping. so really, I just need to get up and move my body around a few times a day (ideally at least once an hour). I’d also really like to pick up some old hobbies I enjoyed as a kid, primarily swimming & roller skating.

the idea of putting on a swimsuit in the dead of winter and going to some random gym I’ve never been to before and swimming in a strange pool is the least appealing thing I have ever considered. but I miss swimming so, so much. it really was one of my favorite activities as a kid. I loved swimming so much, and was so good at it, that when I was an older kid, my swim instructors asked me to be a volunteer swim buddy with the younger kids. which basically meant I helped with the little kid swim classes by making sure the 5 year olds kept their hands on the wall while the instructor was working with another student. and I spent a lot of time taking the little kids to the bathroom so they didn’t pee in the pool mid-class.

I also really loved roller-skating. I know I had at least two birthday parties at the local roller rink & I had a pair of skates I wore the hell out of until I unfortunately out-grew them. I also currently own two pairs of skates but I have such horrible balance (and always forget I have them lol). and I need to clear the basement floor which is a project on my long to-do list I just have not gotten around to doing yet. BUT SOON! I do really want to start skating again, I miss it so much.

other activities may include yoga, hikes, planet fitness, tbd… the possibilities are endless… (kinda, yall know I am not doing anything to remotely risk breaking a nail let alone risk breaking a bone or breaking my spirits)
